Nikon 1 AW1 is a Waterproof Mirrorless Camera

Nikon has just announced the 1-Series AW1 mirrorless camera, which is the first waterproof and shockproof interchangeable lens camera. The Nikon 1 AW1 is waterproof down to 49 feet and shockproof for up to a 6.6 feet drop.

The camera features the 14.2MP Nikon CX-format CMOS sensor that also captures 1080p HD video. It has a built-in GPS, depth gauge, compass and underwater controls. The AF system is comprised of a 73-point array and it will capture up to 15 fps with continuous AF engaged.

Of course, a waterproof mirrorless camera is worthless without an accompanying waterproof lens. To that end, Nikon has also introduced two new all-weather lenses for the Nikon 1 System that also carry the same waterproof and shockproof specs of the Nikon 1 AW1 camera. Both the 1 Nikkor AW 11-27.5mm f/3.5-5.6 and AW 10mm f/2.8 lenses will be available as kit options for the AW1.
